Miss Eloise Harkey, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Harkey, and daughter of Martin and Maggie Isham Harkey of the Wallace Creek Community, was elected queen of the San Saba Junior Chamber of Commerce rodeo here June 19, 20, and 21 in a county-wide popularity contest.

Emma Lou Clopton, age 75 of Roscoe, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at her residence. Graveside services were held Monday, May 13, 2013 at Kuykendall Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas. Arrangements were under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. Emma was born on September 5, 1937 in Austin, Texas to Ira Elton and Letha Mae (Smith) McCown.

Sammye Gray of Cherokee Texas passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the age of 81. She was born to Mary (Brantley) and Sam Williams, August 21, 1931, in Brady Texas. She enjoyed reading, hunting arrowheads and visiting with friends. Angela Eveleen Mason departed this earth to be with her Lord May 7, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones. A memorial service for Angela Mason was held at Wallace Creek Cemetery, Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. with Chaplain Gary Baxley officiating. Anglea was born January 17, 1968 to William Harold Mason and Helen Darlene Stewart Mason in Lampasas, TX.

Gearldine (Patton) Preece went to heaven on May 8, 2013. Gearldine was born in Ohio to David and Floda Patton on December 29, 1955 and was one of ten children. She was the beloved wife of Jerome Dale Preece of San Saba, Texas whom she married on November 4, 1971.

Wow, what a storm we had Friday evening….thus, the recipients of the Yard of the Month for May have decided to pull the award sign from their yard due to the damage it received from the hail and whipping winds! The Garden Club Yard of the Month Committee wishes to still recognize them for their diligent work the past few months.

The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held on Monday, May 13th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the court to order and welcomed everyone. Commissioner Kenley Kroll gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Buddy Oliver and David Williams attended court to announce the Dedication at Harmony Ridge Cemetery as a Texas Historic Cemetery on June 9th at 2 p.m.

On May 8, 2013, the San Saba Grand Jury held its regular meeting to hear cases presented by the District Attorney's Office. Among the cases reviewed by the Grand Jury were Theft of Metal and Burglary investigations conducted by the San Saba Sheriff's Office. Investigations conducted by Deputies Matt Boswell and Mitchell Jacobson resulted in indictments being returned on three individuals.

In the early morning hours of April 22, 2013, individuals burglarized several locations in San Saba and attempted to burglarize the Armadillo Carwash. One of the places burglarized was the "Ice House" located at the "Hawg Waller" just south of San Saba. Another place burglarized was the movie kiosk at the Dollar General Store on south High Street which resulted in the theft of over $13,000.00 worth of movies and video games.

The Texas Association of High School Coaches recently honored Sr., Jeffrey Hoyt with “Academic All-State.” Jeffrey maintained a 96 GPA and is ranked 12th out of 51 in the Senior class. Jeffrey was nominated out of respect for his academic accolades as well as his character on and off the golf course.

Lometa Police Department and Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s help for any information on several burglaries in Lometa in April. Numerous items have been taken: a 46inch flat screen tv, a chainsaw, a laptop computer and a 9 millimeter pistol. Anyone with information contact Asst.
