The 7th grade Dillos traveled into Bluecat country last Thursday to play Coleman. The 7th Dillos were able to emerge victorious after a hard fought ball game.

The Dillos kicked off to Coleman to start the ball game. Oscar Villa handled the kicking duties for the Dillos. Jordan Watson, Cosme Diaz, and Dallas Caldwell made good tackles but the Bluecats were able to keep picking up 1st downs. Coleman pushed the ball deep into Dillo territory. Daniel Calderon, Kelan Verette and Ruben Aquirre made valiant efforts to keep Coleman out of the endzone, but Coleman was able to score on a run around the right end. The 2 pt try was good. 8-0 Coleman.

Geryn Young returned the Coleman kickoff 15 yards to give the Dillos good field position. It didn't take long for the Dillos to answer back. Kelan Verette hooked up with Jordan Watson for a 70 yard TD pass. Verette punched in the 2 pt. 8-8.

Coleman started their drive at midfield. Brian Rogers got the defense going with a huge tackle for a loss. Kolton Ellis, Oscar Villa, Dustin Sloan, and Geryn Young gang tackled on the next two plays to bring up 4th down. Kolton Ellis and Geryn Young made the 4th down stop. Dillos ball!

The Dillos took over with excellent field position. Kelan Verette made a 1st down run of 47 yards to put the Dillos on the Bluecat 12 yard line. Verette was able to make the run because of the blocking of Brian Rogers, Oscar Villa, Wesley Gates, Gunner Hibler, Brandon Amstead and Ashton Krueger. Dallas Caldwell made a run of 7 yards to put the Dillos on the 5. Kelan Verette hooked up with Jordan Watson for a 5 yard TD pass. Dallas Caldwell punched in the 2 pt. try. 16-8 Dillos.

Coleman took over with decent field position. They looked to continue running the ball but Jordan Watson, Brian Rogers, Oscar Villa, and Dustin Sloan made great tackles. On third down the QB fumbled the snap and Oscar Villa recovered.

The Dillos tried to get another score before the half. Kelan Verette made a run of 5 yards and Ruben Aquirre made a run of 15 yards on a reverse. Dallas Caldwell completed a pass to Jordan Watson, unfortunately he was tackled as the buzzer sounded. 16-8 Dillos at the half.

The Dillos received the second half kickoff and kept the ball the entire 3rd quarter. Kelan Verette made runs of 3, 15, 4, 23, 5, 2, and 4 to keep the drive going. Dallas Caldwell made runs of 3, 6, 12, and 3. Verette hooked up with Caldwell for a 6 yard pass. Verette then completed a pass to Watson for 9 yards to move the Dillos to the Bluecat 2 yard line. A series of mental mistakes caused the Dillos to turn the ball over on downs.

The Dillos needed to make a defensive stop in order to win the ball game. Kolton Ellis, Ismael Ramirez, Oscar Villa and Ashton Krueger made tackles on this drive. But the Bluecats were able to pick up 2 first downs. Oscar Villa forced a fumble on 1st down but Coleman was able to recover. Brian Rogers and Ruben Aquirre made tackles for short losses on 2 consecutive plays. Jordan Watson made a huge hit on 4th down to cause Coleman to turn the ball over on downs.

The Dillos needed to run the clock out to win the ball game. Kelan Verette made runs of 6, 8, and 20 yards with the help of a good block by T.J. Hibler. Dillos win 16-8!

The Dillos finished the year 6-3! I am very proud of these boys. I was privileged to be their coach. I see great things for these young men. Thank you for your interest in the 7th Grade Dillos.
