Nov. 12,1908

The Commissioner's Court last Tuesday purchased an improved Burroughs Adding Machine. This will no doubt prove a good investment as it will save much time for the commissioners in checking the tax-assessor's rolls and the tax-collector's monthly reports especially. Usually county commissioners are men not accustomed to adding long columns of figures and it is slow work for them. The saving in time will be money saved to the county. The machine cost $250.

Prof. Hicks of the Richland High School was a visitor in the county seat Saturday. He reports the school there moving along smoothly with a good attendance.

J.M. Kuykendall was down from his Pontotoc ranch Wednesday. He says he got exactly the rain he announced for through the News when he was in town some two weeks ago. Filled his tanks all up and he now has plenty of stock water for the winter.

Mrs. E.L. Laird and Master Samuel left Sunday on a visit to her mother in Galveston.

Nov. 19, 1938

Wednesday of this week San Sabans were basking in sunshine that pushed the thermometer up to 80 degrees in the afternoon, though some thermometers registered as much as 84 degrees.

A meeting was called at the Cherokee school house Wednesday of last week by D.D. Steele, County Agent of Llano County, to see what could be done about getting a line of the Rural Electrification Administration run to Cherokee. We have not yet learned of the final outcome but we know that many in that Village are especially anxious to get an electric line through the village to serve the people there.

Choosing an Armadillo Sweetheart here Monday in the person of Miss Louise Barker, a Senior, the San Saba High School students will see her crowned at the annual tilt between San Saba and Richland Springs Friday evening, Nov. 18, when the two San Saba county teams will battle in the annual conference game at Richland Springs.

More than two-thirds of the subsidy for payment on the 1937 cotton crop has been received at the San Saba County AAA office. Between $70,000 to $80,000 is expected.

Nov. 13, 1958

T. Noel Wood of Richland Springs was the first to bring in an entry for the Fourth Annual San Saba County Pecan Show to be held in the building now occupied by San Saba Tractor Co. in San Saba Saturday, Nov. 22.

H.E. Nance, president of the San Saba county Farm Bureau, and Henry Ratliff, Farm Bureau Service agent, left Sunday for Corpus Christi to attend the Farm Bureau Convention. This is the 25th Annual State Convention. They expect to return late Wednesday.

Mrs. Ben Hubbert has received word that her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ben O. Hubbert, arrived in Rotterdam on Oct. 18, to join her husband stationed in Germany. She was met by Pvt. Hubbert and they attended the Brussells Fair in Belgium. Mrs. Hubbert, the former Ira Dell Felts, is now living in Weisbaden, Germany.
