The San Saba Lady Dillos kicked off the 08-09 campaign last Monday in Burnet as they scrimmaged Burnet and Belton. We did some good things for our first scrimmage. We shot the ball really well and scrambled around in our jump defense. We still need to shore up some things for our first game but for our first scrimmage I was pleased.
Last Saturday we went to Brownwood and scrimmaged the Lady Lions. We didn’t play very well or up to our standards.” We looked very sluggish in the first half and had several turnovers. We played better in the second half and settled down and shot the ball. I was pleased with our defensive intensity as we forced several turnovers. When this article comes out we will have played our first game against Marble Falls Faith Academy and hopefully it was a good game. We do have a time change on the game Saturday. We will play Winters at 5 and 6:30. The times are moved from 7 and 8:30. Winters’cross country team is running at State and they will run earlier than they anticipated. We’re not quite set on our Varsity roster at this time and I’ll get names to the paper once we’re solidified on that.
We’re still battling the injury bug. Nicole Sears is coming around after having her knee scoped and hopefully will see some game action against Winters. She had ACL surgery and is doing well from that surgery but she had to have her meniscus cleaned up so we’re rehabbing her daily in hopes to get her back soon. Jaena Edwards is battling a hamstring pull and will still be out for a while. We have a good nucleus returning and have high expectations.
Come out and support the Lady Dillos and Dillos as we make a run for the GOLD BALL and a long playoff run.
We have a new JV coach, Kara Stowe and our 8th grade coach will be Jonathan Thiebaud and our 7th grade coach is Mickey Rundell. These coaches do a great job and we’re lucky to have them. Best of luck to all teams and “Let the Games Begin!”
Also, just to let you know as far as next week (Nov. 20-22) we will have a “plethora” of basketball games in San Saba County as 20 schools will be coming to our basketball tournament. The tourney will start on Thursday with the Varsity division having 16 teams and the JV will have a 6 team division with pool play. Brackets will be sent to the paper next week but mark your calendar and make plans to come out and see some great girls basketball games.
