This 1909 picture of the west side of the square was in a group of pictures donated to the Library by Diana Ingram. The Mbellishment building had just been completed. Down the block, E. E. Hoyt’s Studio is visible.

Perhaps the cow in these pictures is the subject of this item from the San Saba News on Feb 17, 1910 entitled She’s Gone. Old Reddy.

“Yes, H. B. Winslow has proven himself to be a real benefactor of the town. Last week he sold and delivered old Reddy to the slaughter pens. Old Reddy was the old bovine hell-cat that has boldly and defiantly roamed the streets of San Saba for many years seeking whatsoever she might devour, and usually devouring whatsoever she sought. She was familiar to every farmer who trades at San Saba. This old hussy would go from one wagon or vehicle to another and eat and destroy any and everything from a load of baled hay to the little sack of candy tenderly started to the little ones at home. But Reddy came to her end. She has, ere this, been rolled as a sweet morsel on the tongue of those whom she had tantalized and aggravated. We are glad she is gone.”
