San Saba 8th Grade Dillos traveled to Junction last Thursday night and brought home an impressive 24-14 victory over a good Junction 8th Grade Team. Junction kicked to San Saba to begin the game. J.T. Mathis returned the kick for the Dillos. Sean Argote was the workhorse again this week. Sean ran for 1, 2, 3, 6, 4, 3, 4, 7, 3, 3, 3; Ryan Guidroz ran for 20 and a touchdown. A holding penalty cancelled the score. Guidroz ran again picking up blocks from Nathan Amstead, Russton Ellis, Diego Montoya, Josh Robinson, Corey Snider, Michael McKinnerney, Aaron Perez, and Russell Lowe as he scored from 25 yards out. Argote ran in the PAT. 8-0 Dillos.
The Dillos used up most of the first quarter with the drive. The second quarter San Saba kicked to Junction. Juan Carlos Garcia kicked deep for the Dillos. Junction proceeded to drive the ball. Juan Ortega, Diego Lara, Russell Lowe, Sean Argote all played good defense. The Eagles, after much difficulty were able to score a touchdown from 3 yards out. Diego Montoya and Russell foiled the extra point attempt. 8-6 Dillos.
Junction kicked to San Saba. J.T. Mathis returned the kick 17 yards with blocking by Aaron Rixse, J.C. Garcia, Isaac Zepeda, Joe Lindsey, Kolton Haverland, Garrett Hartranft, and Trevor Tinney paving the way. The offense took over. Argote ran for 3, 4, and then broke for a 55 yard touchdown spring by Joe Lindsey and Ruston Ellis. Argote ran in the extra points. 16-6 Dillos.
San Saba kicked to Junction. Dusty Parum came up big on defense. Good pass defense by J.T. Mathis, Garrett Hartranft, Diego Lara, Sean Argote, Russell Lowe, and Luis Vega halted the Eagle attack. Junction punted as the half ended.
San Saba's Juan Carlos Garcia kicked off to Junction to begin the second half. Dusty Parum showed up big on defense. Kolton Haverland and Sean Argote played good defense. Junction was forced to punt. The offense plowed through the Eagle defense. Argote had runs of 8, 5, 3, 6, 20, 3, 5, 2, and 3 yards. Russell Lowe broke up the middle for a 14 yard touchdown run. Good blocking by Aaron Rixse, Diego Montoya, Nathan Amstead, Aaron Perez, Joe Lindsey, J.T. Mathis, Isaac Zepeda, Ryan Guidroz, Josh Robinson, Garrett Hartranft, Michael McKinnerney, Corey Snider, and Trevor Tinney stabilized the drive. Ryan Guidroz ran in the extra points. 24-6 Dillos.
Garcia kicked off for San Saba and made the tackle on the kick off. Diego Montoya had a big hit the next play. Isaac Zepeda made a good defensive play. Russell Lowe played big on defense. Sean Argote blocked a Junction pass attempt. Junction punted as the 4th quarter began. Argote ran for 7, 7, and then broke on a 50 yard scamper for a touchdown. Unfortunately, it was called back on a block in the back penalty. Russell Lowe ran for 7 yards. Argote added 6 and then the drive was halted by a fumble. Junction got the ball. Sean Argote played good defense as did Kolton Haverland, Ruston Ellis, Juan Carlos Garcia, Garrett Hartranft, and J.T. Mathis. Junction was able to score late in the 4th quarter and a pass for the PAT was good. 24-14 Dillos.
Junction tried an on-side kick. It went out of bounds and Argote added runs of 5, 3, then 10 for a first down. The Dillos knelt to kill the clock for the victory. Argote carried 30 times for 272 yards for a 9 yard average and 1 touchdown; Lowe had 2 carries for 21 yards for a 10 yard average and 1 touchdown; Guidroz was 3 for 48 for a 16 yard average and 1 touchdown. It was a good win. San Saba plays Comanche here Thursday for a final home game.
