The San Saba 8th grade Dillos and the Bangs 8th grade Dragons battled to a 0-0 tie in Bangs last Thursday night. It was a real defensive war. The Dillos had one penetration to the Bangs' 3-yard line. Bangs never got inside the Dillo 20-yard line. Both teams played really hard.

Russell Lowe kicked to Bangs to start the game. Lowe also made the tackle on the kickoff. The Dillo defense, led by Diego Lara, J.T. Mathis, Michael McKinnerney, Luis Vega, Sean Argote, and Juan Ortega, slowed the Dragon offense. Sean Argote sacked the quarterback. Garrett Hartranft made a big play to stop a Bangs' reverse.

The Dillos got the ball. Sean Argote ran for 5-4-3 and a 1st down. The Dillos ran 3 more plays and punted. The second quarter found San Saba on defense. Garrett Hartranft, Russell Lowe, Marcus Escobedo, Dusty Parum, Diego Montoya, Juan Garcia, Ryan Guidroz and Michael McKinnerney led the Dillo defensive attack. Russell Lowe hit the Bangs tailback and caused a fumble, which was recovered by Sean Argote. The Dillos moved the ball on runs by Argote, behind the blocking of J.T. Mathis, Trevor Tinney, Corey Snider, Josh Robinson, Isaac Zepeda, Joe Lindsey, Aaron Perez, Kolton Haverland, Nathan Amstead, Russton Ellis, Juan Garcia, Diego Montoya and Aaron Rixse.

The Dillos drove to the Dragon's 30-yard line but failed to score. Bangs drove the ball to mid-field before Dusty Parum fell on a Dragon fumble. San Saba had the ball as the half ended, 0-0.

Bangs kicked to San Saba to start the second half. Russell Lowe returned the ball to the 50. The Dillos ran 3 plays and punted. The Dillo defense of Ryan Guidroz, Luis Vega, Sean Argote, Dusty Parum, Juan Garcia, Isaac Zepeda, Diego Lara and J.T. Mathis forced a Dragon turnover.

Argote ran for 5. The Dillos got a holding penalty. The yardage was regained when Argote was tackled horse collar style, which added 15 yards.

The drive was stopped on a pass interception at the Bang's 20. The defense of Dusty Parum, Ryan Guidroz, and Isaac Zepeda rose up again. Parum and Argote teamed up for a quarterback sack; then Argote and Zepeda teamed up for another sack.

The 4th quarter started with Bangs punting to San Saba. The Dillos ran 1 play and fumbled. Bangs took the ball and went to the pass. Juan Ortega knocked down the attempt. J.T. Mathis, Luis Vega, Diego Lara and Garrett Hartranft stopped several pass attempts. Sean Argote sacked the quarterback.

The Dillo offense moved on runs of 4 and 6 yards by Argote. Argote added 2, then 3 more. Ryan Guidroz gained 4, Argote 5, then Bangs intercepted a Dillo pass. Bangs tried 4 passes. The Dillos got the ball back for one last play. A pass and lateral from McKinnerney to Argote netted 20 yards but not a score as time ran out - 0-0 - in a hard fought contest.

The 8th grade Dillos play Brady at Rogan Field this Thursday night.
