September went by so fast that you didn’t have time to think and October will be a busy month for everyone. Just hope that it starts to rain to help fill up the tanks that are in need of water.
On September 20, Jerome and Shirley Meischen attended the UT/Rice game in Austin to watch their grandson Blake Gideon play. UT won that game which made the trip a happy one. Blake plays left safety in all the games and sometimes on the speciality team. Saturday, they defeated Arkansas. The long walk to the stadium is hard for Shirley, but was worth the effort to see her grandson play football. Jerome and Shirley are planning to attend the Colorado/UT game this week in Colorado.
Last week, Mary Pike and members of her family from Midland were in over the weekend working on her mobile home that is on the Clark home place acreage. Patsy Henniger reported that it is just a matter of getting the utilities hooked up. They spent the weekend painting and doing what needed to be done so that the electric meter could be installed. Once the electric is in place then the rest can be finished in short order.
Barbara Jones was taken to Lampasas Sunday morning suffering from congestive heart failure. At last reports, she was resting easy Sunday night. Monday tests were run to determine what type of treatment would be best for her. Please put her on your prayer list.
Edna Machen attended her high school reunion at Winters this past Saturday. She was so anxious to get home, she didn’t take the time to stop and fill up her car with gasoline. Sunday, when she and Jim started to church, you guessed it, they ran out of gas. It happened right at the turn in of Lola Morris’s home and she just happened to have some gas in a can to allow them to get back home. It is very rare for Lola to be at home and not be at church, which was lucky for Jim and Edna. You can just go so far on fumes, as the Machen’s soon learned.
Hugo and Lesa Preece just returned from a trip to Oregon and points west. There must be something special that attracts them as they went there last year on vacation.
A big birthday celebration was held Sunday afternoon at the Bend Community Center for Shirley Meischen, with a host of friends and relatives there to celebrate with her. After all, it is not every day you celebrate the big 70. Someone asked if all the names of people attending would be in the column, but it would take a whole newspaper page to list them all. Just know that all the tables at the center were used.
The Bend Community cake auction, silent auction and fish fry will be the 3rd Saturday, October 18, 5:00 p.m. Mark your calendar and plan to attend. The plates will be: adults - $10.00 and $5.00 for 12 and under children.
