The #3 Richland Springs Coyotes notched another win this past Friday night by defeating the Covington Owls by a score of 62-0. The Coyotes are now 2-0 on the young season. This was a lopsided affair from the beginning.

The Coyotes dominated both sides of the ball all night long. The Coyote defense held the Owl offense to a negative 1 total yards and without a first down all night.

Wow! The Coyote defense also had 4 takeaways that led to 20 Coyote points. The Coyote offensive was impressive again this week! The Coyotes ground game was the full story in this game.

Abraham Ahumada scored three rushing TD’s in the first quarter on runs from 2,13, & 23 yards out. Haustin Burkhart added the only other TD run for the first quarter from 28 yards away. They led 28-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Coyotes scored five more times in the 2nd quarter.

Abraham Ahumada rushed for a 13 yard TD and Ryan Soto added a 4 yard TD run of his own. Haustin Burkhart tossed 2 TD passes on the night. The first was to Randy Couch from 15 yards out and the second was to Nigel Bates from 8 yards away.

Mitchell Jacobson scored the final Coyote TD when he picked up an Owl fumble at the 2:28 mark of the 2nd quarter and ran it in from 2 yards out. Randy Couch was 4 of 8 on his PAT kicks. The Coyote running game was so successful because of just some great blocking! Andrew Fowler led the way for the Coyotes along with Mitchell Jacobson, Nigel Bates, Randy Couch, and Tommy Hollon.

Every Coyote on the sideline saw action during this game. Great job rushing by Ryan Soto and Dean King. King did score a TD for the Coyotes, but it was called back due to a penalty.

Elbert Thomas did a good job on the kick off coverage team, as well as on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball.

Here is a quick look at our entire team roster: Haustin Burkhart, Stephen Fowler, Neil McMillan, Dusty Newby, Joe Tomlinson, Nigel Bates, Mitchell Jacobson, Andrew Fowler, Ben VanCleave, Joe Avila, Brennen McGinty, Elbert Thomas, Khalid Khatib, Justin Trevino, Randy Couch, Ross Santiago, Tommy Hollon, Abraham Ahumada, David Vetch, Denim Reeves, Danny Tillery, C.J. Finke, Winston Poe, Dean King, Justin Hansen, Aaron Cochran, and Ryan Soto.

The Coyotes will now set their sites on the Lometa Hornets (2-0). Lometa has defeated the Covington Owls by a score of 58-0 and then knocked off the DII #2 state ranked Zephyr Bulldogs last week by a score of 44-33. The Hornets are on a roll and are playing with a lot of confidence.

The Hornets will be looking to pay back the Coyotes after losing to them the last couple of years in the bi-district playoffs.

Look for the same old style of game from the Lometa Hornets. They grow them big over there, so look for them to line it up and try to ball control you and run it down your throat.

The Coyotes will need everyone’s support, so please try to make the trip to Lometa. Lets fill the stands and get loud for our boys! Look for the Coyotes to just get better every week. The JH (0-0) and JV Coyotes (2-0) will be hosting the Lometa Hornets this Thursday night at Coyote Field.

If you are not able to make the trip to Lometa, you can listen to the Coyotes on 106.1 FM or on the World Wide Web at www.kbalfm.com. I don’t see the Coyotes looking past Lometa in this one, so I will go with: COYOTES 57, Lometa 14. GO COYOTES GO!!

Pre-game starts at 7:15. The Coyote Game Day Trailer will be open this Thursday night at Coyote Field, so stop by and check out our newest items like adult & youth t-shirts, adult & youth caps, and 3’x5’ Coyote flags!

Keep your ears open for this: I heard the Coyote Booster Club will be having a “FIRE SALE” on a lot of their Game Day Trailer inventory. I think it is scheduled for Sept. 19th at Coyote Field starting at around 6pm. You don’t want to miss this one time “FIRE SALE“, if you are looking for a bargain!
