McKenna Maxcey, 11-year-old daughter of Reagan and Marcie Maxcey, competed in her first Junior High Rodeo on August 31, 2008. Texas Junior High Rodeos are open to girls and boys in the 6th-8th grades. All participants in Texas Junior High Rodeos must be in good standing at their respective schools and passing all of their courses.
McKenna competes in Region 10, which includes girls from across Texas, in barrel racing, poles, goat tying, break-away roping and ribbon roping. After the first rodeo, McKenna is leading the All-Around with 560 points.
There is a series of 10 rodeos with the top eight girls in each event from each region going to the state finals next summer in Gonzales. At the state finals, the top four from each event will represent Texas at the National finals which will be held next summer.
The competition at each level is stiff, but McKenna is competing quite well against older and more experienced girls. Go McKenna!
