It happened again last week as another hurricane, Gustav, turned westward at the last minute and missed a direct hit on New Orleans. By the time it hit shore it had calmed down a lot. There was no or very little loss of life and destruction of property.
The other hurricane, Katrina, almost three years to the day turned eastward at the last minute and missed a direct hit. No one knows for sure but if it had not changed course and dropped from a category five to a category three with winds of 130 miles per hour there is no telling what the destruction could have been.
Yes, it did a lot of damage and yes, there were lost lives but it could have left nothing standing with very few or no survivors.
I know people were praying, (Psalm 86:5 & 6) and it just may be that those prayers were heard and answered by God and the low-lying areas were shown some mercy.
I heard one man say as he was interviewed that they had lost all of their material possessions but thank God that their lives had been spared, (Psalm 86:7 & 8: Psalm145:18 & 19) and they would start over. We need to pray for others, (1 Timothy 2:1 & 8). Who knows, we might be the next ones in the storms of life. See you in Church next Sunday.
