The Cherokee Indians started their ’08 football campaign last Friday night at Star.

The Indians took the opening kickoff marched down the field, taking almost 5 minutes off the clock, before Nieves Solis passed 5 yards to Dillon Epperson for the first touchdown of the season.

Epperson added the PAT to put the Indians up 8-0. Star scored on their possession on a 27 yard run, but the PAT failed, giving the Indians an 8-6 lead.

The wheels fell off for the Indians after that. From the next possession on, the Indians gave the ball away on turnovers, 4 lost fumbles and 2 interceptions.

Star converted each one of them into touchdowns. The Indians found a way to move the ball on the Tigers late in the half but were eventually held on downs.

Star scored the eventual game-ending touchdown on a 60 yard run. The Indians had one last possession with :38 remaining in the half to score and continue the game, but time ran out.

The Indians were playing without Jesse Perez and lost Dillon Epperson in the 1st quarter to a shoulder injury. The team pulled together and played hard against a faster, quicker Star Tiger team. Cherokee will host Faith Academy this Friday at 7:30.
