Guess what, everyone? It's football season! The Coyote Classic took place this last weekend. Once again it was a tremendous success.

For those of you who say, "Ho-hum . . . football," all I can say is I’m sorry you feel that way. As in previous years, the churches of the community - First Baptist, Church of Christ, and the Christian Church - banded together to provide meals for all the football teams.

I can tell you honestly that all the volunteers and cooks received many accolades. Most players and coaches bragged on the barbeque and delicious cakes.

One coach said he makes sure he comes here because the people are so wonderful. The kids were polite and appreciative. Our thanks go out to everyone who helped make this a successful year. I hope you find the time to come out and help next year!

Yours truly goofed up big time. It comes from being a city slicker; I just can’t help it. Add to that, I’m a foreigner, and you have a formula for disaster. This young man came in wearing a big shiny belt buckle. All I can say after that is if you are going to give belt buckles for goats and rams, you need to rename the winning categories. Everyone had a grand old laugh at my expense, and Kay McKee sent me to the corner for time out.

We did get a good chuckle out of my “dumb.” I had a number of people in church come and ask me if I had read any interesting belt buckles lately! Thanks friends! We did have fun all weekend serving over 300 meals to hungry young football players and coaches.

I understand the churches made an announcement about the water problem we have been having. Citizens were asked to monitor water usage, cut grass watering and watch for water. It seems we have a water leak.

The football boys can vouch for that! Some showers had trickles and sputters instead of steady streams. I’m pleased to say that two leaks were found.

One church member, Dell, told Donald she saw water in the ditch behind her house. Turns out that was the leak Donald was searching for. A 6 inch main was broken, therefore causing the water to drain from the towers, and the pumps to run overtime trying to keep up with the loss. Part of that explanation could be wrong; the general idea is the water should be fixed shortly. Donald was rounding up a backhoe and other equipment to “git R done.”

Bev Cohn is still in the hospital. They drained fluid from her lung or lung area. She is terribly missed, and we need her home soon.

David Evans spent a worrisome week. Bonnie says the news is good, and not so good. The cancer is not in his bones, so that’s good; but there is still some in the stomach. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

We were all shocked to hear that Pearl Cantrell has lost her son, Robert. The family will release details in a few days.

Louise Hyman went to see her sister, who is not doing well, but has been released from the hospital back into the nursing home.

Beatrice Soto headed out to Arlington to tend to her Mom who was put into the hospital. It seems as if folks in Richland Springs have been busy this weekend.

The Women’s Quilting Bible Study will resume on Wednesday. The ladies meet at 5:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. We are going to be working on smaller projects like runners and hangings this year. The Bible study will be from the book, “15 Minutes Alone with God”, by Emilie Barnes. You can wait until you see the project before you buy your material or bring what you have and make it work. Kay McKee will be glad to give you a list of materials if you call her. Give yourself a refreshing break, and come on over! Wednesday, September 3rd, at 5:30pm at the First Baptist Church in Richland Springs is our first meeting night.

Some of you noticed that the caption under the Sealy baby shower didn’t match. I sent the caption before the picture arrived. There were two pictures and one caption; a recipe for disaster at any time. This wasn’t a disaster, but it sure gave some of you a laugh! Mrs. Pierce probably thought she was seeing things, especially herself, not pictured! The good thing was everyone was pictured, and we all had fun! I wish all babies could be born into such happy, stable families.

First week at school was hectic but good. The front office has the worst of the glitches. Computers don’t do what they’re supposed to do; kids want schedule changes, and packages come in with supplies every day.

I don’t know how Mrs. Mask keeps her sanity. We are very lucky to have her to keep us straight. It was great to see our friendly cafeteria ladies again. Now if you want to talk about “good folks,” they are rich material! Thanks for keeping us fed and fit, ladies.

Send in your box tops for education; Mrs. Gossett is ready to read. Bradie Dodson brought in 40 on her first day of school! Way to go Bradie! I hope we can have a banner year for box tops and reading.

Your teacher may not ask you; but if you want to help out in your student’s room please go by and volunteer. I know we all want to have great parties and birthday treats, but schedules are so busy that we teachers need our moms to help out!

George Hill has been visiting doctors for several weeks now trying to get some relief from the constant pain in his legs. Apparently the pain is in his back, but manifesting itself in his legs. Now that the problem has been narrowed; perhaps he can get some help. Please keep George and Donna in your prayers, as they work their way through the medical system to better health.

Thanks for the wonderful weekend everyone. Our announcer in one game stated “I believe he didn’t want any part of that ball” after a missed pass. I believe he might have been right. I hope this week is a little quieter; I’m looking for more routine and less instant decision time in my life. Please remember to pray for the folks on the coast. I get impatient with the Katrina thing sometimes, but this next storm needs to hit in Texas not New Orleans. Our land is so dry, it will just sop it up like bean juice, and one of Kay’s sourdough biscuits!

Remember our precious troops in your prayers. Should you be given a chance to help a soldier’s family, please do so. They need our help and prayers also.

Pray for our government, our elections, our President and our wonderful country. All of them need it and us to remain strong. Have a great week; remember Jesus’ commandment to love one another. It makes life much pleasanter and hearts stronger.
