The Cherokee Volunteer Fire Department will have their Fish Fry/Bar-B-Que, Saturday night starting at 6:00 p.m. Good food and Good music!

There will be a cake auction. They will also auction a gift certificate from Harrys, a beautiful quilt, and a Black Buck Antelope hunt. Please come and support the Fire Department.

The Cherokee First United Methodist Church has expanded their ministry to include Cherokee Charm Preschool. This program is two days a week and focuses on a strong phonics foundation as well as other preschool basics.

Chris Maddox has been in the hospital in Austin. She will be having surgery in the future. Please add Chris to your prayer list.

Doug and Cyndi Suggs recently visited with Johnnie Webb in Llano. Johnnie is going to spend two weeks in Washington State with her son Mike and his wife.

Chuck Matlack is back home in Llano after spending quite a while at his daughter’s house in the Dallas area. Chuck had a staff infection that has taken a long time for him to recover from. He still has a way to go.

Don Burdine has had some cancers removed from his head and ear.

Sheri and Garland Cross have been visiting family in Gonzales.

The Mckneely Family had their annual Labor Day reunion at the home of Larry and Marsha Mckneely. It was reported that the weather was wonderful and everyone had a great time.

DiAnne Scott had surgery in Austin Friday morning, it seems to have gone well, I don't know what I'd do without Janeice Duggan to hold my hand and drive me home from these procedures.

Dale Scott was able to spend 5 days at home during the holidays. Joseph and Cindy were also home to spend some time with the parents and Russell during the break.

Joseph is now working in Charthage Tx., driving a truck hauling heavy equipment, the same thing his Dad does in Cleburn, Tx.

SUPER SATURDAY IN CHEROKEE Plans are underway to get an arts and crafts fair started in Cherokee. So set aside Saturday, October 18th to participate or attend the first annual or bi-annual SUPER SATURDAY IN CHEROKEE.

There are many local artisans and crafters that don’t get the publicity they need. Cherokee isn’t too small to grow into something that will make people want to join or visit us on special days. This has been in the talking stages for a long time.

Now is the time to act and get something done. We have the highway frontage and even with the high price of gasoline, traffic is growing on highway 16 and FM501.

People are looking for the less traveled routes these days. The rural area of the hill country is our best drawing card.It has not been decided yet as to whether to include antiques and collectables.

But garage sales should be scheduled at another time. Garage sales and yard sales will discourage the better artisans to come and we want to attract people who are looking for quality goods.

We are working on areas where one can set up. For this first show there will be no charge for spaces for people to set up their wares.

If you or anyone you know would like to participate we want to hear from you. If you or anyone you know want to be involved in any other way we want to hear from you too. Please tell everyone you know that live elsewhere to help spread the word.

Thomas and Elaine Bowden from San Saba spent Labor Day with Flora Bowden.

Maybelle Ray recently had eye surgery.

Funeral services were held recently in Houston for Charlene Parisher Green. Charlene was the daughter of Dan and Jessie Lee Parisher.
