This last week was really nice because of all the rain that was received around the Bend. There was more than 2 inches of rain recorded by some. It came down slow enough to have time to soak into the ground with very little run off.

Condolences go out to the family of Fran Hulgan who recently suffered the loss of her father who was killed in a car accident.

The rain didn’t prevent the Simmons family reunion that has been held over the Labor Day holiday for a number of years. The families came from Bertram, Cedar Park, Lometa and other places to enjoy camping out on the Colorado River.

Gary, Jacob and Shelby Rose Freeland of Canyon Lake were in for a visit to the home of Tommie and Jane Tinney over the weekend.

John Byrd returned August 27 from a two-week trip. He spent one week in California and the last week in Arizona helping to build a vacation home for his sister.

He and Wilma Jo reported that their garden wasn’t as good as it should have been this year. The same story has been reported by others.

The hot dry weather may have been the reason. The winter gardens should do better if the rain keeps coming.

Belle Marley is still in Rollins-Brooke Hospital in Lampasas, but is expected to be moved to a Rehab center sometime this week.

Barbara Jones met Bill and Jo Price in Lampasas Sunday after church to eat lunch before she made her way to Killeen where she will be visiting friends over the Labor Day weekend.

After lunch the Price family made their way to Lampasas Nursing home to enjoy the afternoon playing dominoes with Elo Henniger. They played two games and that was enough for them as Elo won both games.

The home of William and Jane Clark was a busy place this past weekend. Boyd, Melissa, Eli and Gabriel Clark, Earol and Marsha Littleton of San Antonio along with Doug, Kristi, Jordan and Jaylee of Lampasas, Jamie, Andrew and A.J. celebrated Jane and Marsha’s birthday Sunday.

Monday the men went dove hunting and brought in about twelve doves. Andrew got to shoot for the first time which was a thrill for him even if he didn’t kill a bird.

Mary Pike, her daughter Cindy Dean of Midland and step daughter Freda Pike of Fredericksburg, John and Nancy Hicks of Alvarado were in over the weekend visiting in the home of R.J. and Patsy Henniger. Mary will be working on her mobile home on the Clark place and Freda was just in for the day Sunday.

The home of George and Toni Mayben was a busy place also this weekend. Kelly and Jennifer Goodson and their two children, Chris, Lehia Mayben and their two children of San Angelo were in over the Labor Day weekend.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Audy Jo Henniger who will celebrate a birthday September 5, to Jane Clark who will be celebrating a birthday on grandparents day September 7, to Andrew Houdyshell who will celebrate a birthday September 8.

Congratulations go out to Bernice and LaFayne Porter who will be celebrating an anniversary September 11, Patriot Day.
