After a Saturday, August 31st score of 73, Michael Whitley posted a score of 77 on Sunday and won his second San Saba Golf Club Championship. Michael previously won the championship in 2005.

Michael has been associated with San Saba golf since he was four years old and his father Buddy Whitley became his coach and made him special junior sized clubs. He has continued this family tradition when his own son, Joshua, was five-years-old. Michael says Joshua has shown great promise and loves to tag along with his dad on the links.

Michael graduated from San Saba High School in 1999. He was a member of the San Saba High School Team that went to the State Championship in 1999, where he finished eighth in the state.

Michael constantly practices at the San Saba Course which he believes is one of the most beautiful and friendly places to play in Texas. He makes a special effort to promote the San Saba Course wherever he plays serving as a golfing ambassador for our community.

Michael began his pro-career in 2006. Most weekends find him playing in tournaments across Texas. San Saba’s central location facilitates his travels throughout Texas.

His specialty is long ball drive competitions. Michael has promoted and hosted tournaments in San Saba and Killeen. He also qualified and competed in the 2007 Remax World Longdrive Championship held last October outside Las Vegas Nevada. His friends and supporters wish him continued success next week as he competes in a Los Angeles, California qualifying competition for the 2008 Tournament.

Michael’s goals are to continue with tournament play, attend the PGA Pro Academy and secure a Golf Pro’s position in Central Texas where he can share his love of golf by teaching both youthful and adult athletes.
