The Cherokee Independent School District will hold trustee elections on November 4, 2008 in conjunction with the general election. This is a new requirement passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor during the third special session of the 79th legislature under provisions of House Bill 1.

In House Bill 1, Article 11 school districts are required to hold a joint election with either a municipality in which their district resides or during the general election for state and county officials.Cherokee ISD does not reside in any municipality (city) therefore, is required to hold their election each even-numbered year.

Trustee terms were extended from three years to four years to comply with this new requirement.

School districts are required to use the same polling place as the general election and are to be held on the same date.
