The "Take a Child Hunting" program concluded the 2011-2012 season Saturday, January 7th. 74 boys from 13 children's homes hunted at 21 area ranches harvesting 67 animals. Homes participating were Methodist Children's Home, Waco; Presbyterian Children's Home, San Antonio; Methodist Boy's Ranch, Waco; Christ's Haven, Keller; Texas Baptist Children's Home, Round Rock; Hughes Home, San Angelo; Boys Country, Hockley; Still Creek Boy's Ranch, Bryan; Cherokee Home, Cherokee; Texas Baptist Home, Waxahachie; Presbyterian Children's Home, Waxahachie; Smith Home, Mullin; and Davis Home, Blanket.Ranches hosting the youngsters were 3 Creeks Ranch, Gillespie county; Bar 7, Gillespie; Behrens Ranch, San Saba; Broken S Ranch, Mason; CC Davis, McCulloch; Cripple Creek, Bandera; Double L Ranch, Kimble; Karl Ransleben, Gillespie; Korn Place, Mason; Lov Kuykendall Ranch, San Saba; Mill Creek Ranch, Mason; Northcutt Ranch, Mason; Operation Orphans Game Pasture, Masonl; Parnell Ranch, McCulloch; Patti & Richard Myrick, Mason; Ray Ranch, Sutton; Robison Ranch, Llano; Shaw Ranch, Mason; Star Mountain Ranch, Hamilton; Woelfel Ranch, Mason; and YMCA Roberts Ranch, Kerr. Animals harvested were 33 does, 24 spikes, 2 bucks, 1 aoudad, 2 fallow, 4 sika, and 1 fox for a total of 67 animals.Volunteers who prepared the Saturday sack lunches for the young hunters and their guides were Sierra Marin, Apsen Martin, Dakota Martin, Rae Ann Martin, Evan Barnes, Gabe Jennings, Karen Jennings, and Sherry Lehmberg. Members of the Mason Volunteer Fire Department who prepared the Saturday morning breakfast were Clyde Martin, Charlie Grosse, and Earl Koch. Mason Bottling Company provided the soft drinks for the lunches and Fredericksburg Bakery provided baked goods for all to enjoy.During the 52 years of the Operation Orphans, Inc. "Tak e a Child Hunting" program, 17,533 boys and girls have participated.During a board of directors meeting, Operation Orphans, Inc. set dates for the 2012-2013 hunting and fishing programs. Boys Fishing Day, April 21, 2012, Girls Fishing Day, May 5, 2012. Hunt dates will be October 27, 2012 for the Girls Hunt; November 17, 2012 for a Boys Hunt; December 1, 2012 and January 12, 2013 for the last two Boys Hunts.
