San Saba ISD was the recipient of a grant that was provided by the Texas Association of School Boards(TASB). The grant is one that provides upgrades or installation of safety type equipment that will make the campus or district operate more efficiently and more safely and can be applied to a multitude of areas. San Saba ISD applied for the grant to fund the installation of video surveillance on our route buses. Currently the District operates 4 rural routes that travel great distances. The video surveillance provides us two things: peace of mind that our students are safe and peace of mind that our drivers are safe. On each of the route buses a camera is installed that records the activity on the bus and the sound on the bus. The video is stored on a hard drive that is installed on the bus that can be accessed and video retrieved from it when it becomes necessary. The video recordings are randomly checked weekly as well. Safety is a top priority at SSISD. We feel that if we can protect our students and staff in all areas then we are providing an educational environment where students and staff should thrive. You may ask, is the bus really educational environment? I would have to answer yes! Some kiddos spend up to two hours a day on the bus and the route driver is the first person and the last person that our students see in a day. The attitude and the safety of the bus can certainly set the student up to have a good day at school and a good evening at home.If you are curious about the routes that are driven by the SSISD transportation department, please go to our website at www.san-saba.net and click on the Transportation link. A map of each route is listed. As well, know that notification is posted on each route bus that indicates that video surveillance is present on the buses. Congratulations to the participants in the San Saba County Livestock Show and Youth Fair. The Stock Show and the Youth Fair exhibits were outstanding! Thanks too, for all those who put their time and effort in organizing this great event. I would like to thank Warden Tucker and the work group from the prison as they came out to help the SSISD maintenance staff get the show barn ready to go. Thanks to our SSISD maintenance staff too for the great work! The facility is not easy to maintain and get “show” ready, but they did a great job. Mr. Womack and Mrs. Seabourn are to be commended too for the great work that they do with the show and with our kiddos!!!Parents, let us know how we can help you the first day of school all the way until the last day of school!!
