The San Saba City Council held a Public Hearing prior to a Called Meeting on Tuesday, August 24th at 6 p.m. in the City’s Council Chambers. Mayor Ken Jordan called the meeting to order and announced a quorum present. Alderman, Charles Peeler gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
There were no citizens present for the required Public Hearing. The proposed tax rate remains the same, $.31942 per $100 evaluation. The budget will raise more total property taxes than last years by approximately $15,031.00 which is raised from the increase in the total tax roll this year.
Mayor Jordan declared the Public Hearing closed and called to order the Called Meeting.
John Huss, Regional Director, Department of State Health Services, presented the Council with a plaque in honor of their services for the door-to-door survey. Russ Jones, Epidemiologist, gave the council the entire report of the survey.
The Council approved the following items:
1. Ordinance No. 2010-10 annexing the LCRA Park, Risien Park, the RV Park and Golf Course, Transfer Track and the Wastewater Treatment Site.
2. Ordinance No. 2010-11 an ordinance governing the Texas Municipal Retirement System allowing updated service credits; increase in retirement annuities; and date of allowance and increases.
Tony Guidroz gave an update on tourism/development that included improvements to Risien Park; a grand-reopening for expansion at Super S this weekend; and a caution to the community to be aware of a product that is named K2 or Spice that is being sold over the counter and has effects the same as Marijuana. It is legal for 18 and over but some adults are buying it and distributing it to kids which is a criminal act and very harmful.
Stan Weik, City Manager, reported that Al Hamrick, City Employee, is recovering from an auto accident in the city limits when a pick-up hit him from behind when he was stopped on Monday, August 23rd.
Mayor Jordan adjourned the meeting.
