The San Saba County Commissioners Court met on Monday, August 23, at 9 a.m. for a Special Meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to propose a tax increase. The Commissioners approved unanimously the proposed tax increase and set up the following public hearings and to announce the meetings in the newspaper: September 7th, 9 a.m.; September 13th, 6 p.m. The final budget and tax rate will be adopted at a meeting on Tuesday, September 21st at 9 a.m.

Judge Theodosis adjourned the meeting and announced that the regular Commissioners Court would follow. Those in attendance at the meeting were: County Judge, Byron Theodosis; County Commissioners Roger McGehee, Kenley Kroll, Rickey Lusty, Otis Judkins; County Clerk, Kim Wells; County Coordinator, Marsha Hardy; County Treasurer, Gayla Hawkins; County Appraiser, Randy Henderson; Regional Director, Department of State Health Services, John Huss; San Saba News & Star Reporter, Alice Smith.

Judge Byron Theodosis called the regular meeting of the County Commissioners Court to order and welcomed everyone. Commissioner Rickey Lusty gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

John Huss, Regional Director, Department of State Health Services, was in attendance and made comments regarding the San Saba County Health Survey that was conducted last month. The Survey was helpful so that they know the needs of a small hill country community and the cooperation and assistance they received was extraordinary. Huss presented a plaque to the Commissioner’s Court to honor them for their service.

The Commissioners took action on the following:

1. Approved the accounts payables presented by County Treasurer Gayla Hawkins.

2. Discussed the Burn Ban enacted on August 13th with no action taken.

3. Approved amendments and/or Line Item Transfers to the 09-10 budget.

4. The next Commissioners Court will be held on Monday, September 13th at 9 a.m.

The Commissioners went over some items on the proposed budget. They voted that the heads of departments could not adjust employees salaries, whereby all county employees will get a 3% cost of living increase for the 2010-2011 Budget.

Judge Theodosis adjourned the meeting.
