This past week the Dillo Baseball Varsity and JV baseball teams were rained out Tuesday as we were supposed to play in Johnson City. This marked the 2nd time this year that a game was cancelled due to rain or snow. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday the Dillos competed in the Hamilton Tournament. Thursday the Dillos were victorious against Hico beating them 7-6, advancing to the winners bracket to take on Early. On Friday the Dillos were victorious with another 7-6 victory putting us in the Championship. A great crowd was on hand as the Dillos took on Santo in the Championship game. We jumped out on them early with a 7-1 lead in the 5th inning. A Santo grand slam and several pitching changes later, we were beaten in the bottom of the 7th by a score of 8-7. When the wheels came off, mine did too and I hope we all learned something from the tournament. We finished 2nd in the tournament.
I was really proud of the kids, and hope the non-district season has gotten us ready for district. The Varsity is 4-3 on the season, while the JV has yet to play. This week is a busy week for all of us, baseball included. On Tuesday the Dillos open district play against district favorite Bangs. The JV plays at 4:30 while the Varsity will play at 7:00. This weekend is the Mill Pond Classic. I would like to encourage everyone to come out for some great baseball. There will be 21 games played at Mill Pond Park this week, with the Dillo Varsity and JV playing in 9 of them. I would also like to remind everyone that all Dillo athletes will be kicking off a spring fund-raiser on Wednesday. We will be selling tankard mugs. There are many styles to choose from, and I hope the favorite is the Dillo style. Thank you for your continued support of Dillo athletics and SSISD. See you at the park, track, courts, field, or course.
