The spring thunderstorms have begun with the one blowing in on Monday. I do not look forward to the storm season. Some of the fruit trees are in full bloom. I hope we don’t lose the fruit crops.

We were sorry to hear of the passing of Leon Cowan, age 68, of Brownwood, formerly of Elm Grove. Seldon and Lola Cowan were residents of our community for many years and raised three sons, Bob, Orvil and Leon. Only Bob survives. Leon’s wishes were to be cremated and at a later date the family will gather at the old home place and scatter his ashes. There will be no funeral service. We send our sympathy to his family.

Hershel Bryson of Brady passed away Sunday. His wife, Olinza, is a first cousin of Jesse and Andy Cummings. We attended his visitation Monday evening at the Heritage Funeral Home in Brady. It seems like we are attending an awful lot of funerals, lately.

The 42 tournament will be Saturday night in Richland Springs.

We will have the gospel singing at Elm Grove on the 20th at the community center. We invite all of you to come and sing or just listen if you want to. Piano players are needed. Mildred and Gloria Weatherman and Monica Edmondson are hostesses but everyone is invited to bring finger foods.

My sister, Addie Long, is back in the hospital and very ill. Avanell Rhoden has been on the sick list also. Let’s keep all these folks on our prayer list.

I heard of another loyal reader of this column, Valrea Patton, over in San Saba. I want to thank her for the nice things she said. It is folks like this who make it seem like it is worth the trouble each week.

G.H. Suber was our weekend guest again and he and Michael attended the bird sale in Lampasas. He was taking some beautiful birds to be sold and Michael brought a pretty one back home with him.
