Dear Editor,
Over the past few months the citizens of San Saba County have been involved in a battle even if they did not know it. That battle is part of a process. Our state government has saddled its citizens with it if they want to protect their homes and properties.
A large company, (Oncor) doing the bidding of a state agency (Ercot) is just doing what the legislature has asked them to do, bring wind energy to the I-35 corridor. You may not think that huge 345KV line crossing 50 sq. miles of San Saba County affects you. Let me explain, if this first line were allowed to carve its way across the Colorado River into San Saba County, clear cutting its way through the San Saba River valley and marching on until it exits across the Colorado River again, there is no argument to keep the second, third, fourth, or fifth line out of this county.
We have received a favorable ruling during the costly judicial portion of this process. Now this is my request to all of the citizens. Help us to retire the debts incurred during this process. Please donate whatever you can afford directly to (POSSE) at City National Bank. As important as retiring the debt is, I need you to do one more thing. Please contact your State Senator, Troy Fraser or Representative, Harvey Hildebran. Ask them to help you keep these lines out of the geographical jewel that is San Saba County.
By the end of March, the Public Utility Commissioners will make their formal ruling on this line. We must show that we come to the aid of our neighbors just as we would if there was a fire, tornado, or other tragedy. It is not my nature to ask for help. It goes back to the way we were raised. But I am asking you for this, come to the aid of your fellow citizens.
Thank you,
Floyd Shahan
San Saba, Texas
