Operation Orphans, Inc. will celebrate 50 years of the "Take a child Hunting" program, March 13, 2010 from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Camp Gene Ashby. The celebration will be an open house format where guests may view the facilities, hear guest speakers, enjoy refreshments, and visit with Operation Orphans directors, host ranchers, participating children's home representatives, guides, and volunteers. Camp Gene Ashby is located approximately 9 miles south of Mason on Hwy. 87. Take Lower Willow Creek Road one half mile to Operation Orphans Lane and Camp Gene Ashby.
At a recent board meeting, Operation Orphans, Inc. directors set dates for the 2010 fishing and hunting programs. A boys fishing camp will take place April 24 while a camp for girls will take place May 15. Hunt dates for this season will be October 30, November 20, December 4, December 11, and January 8. The November hunt will be for girl hunters and the other four dates will be for boys. Boys and girls participating will be from Texas child-care facilities and foster homes.
