Not much news from around the Bend this week, think it must have been washed away with all of the rain. This last week, everyone in the county received rain and more rain. Four inches was received at the Bend and all of the tanks overflowed. The cold wet weather was hard on the livestock, but putting out extra cubes and hay helped them to make it okay. More rain is forecast this week. The river was way up out of its banks and is still running high and wide. The amount of trash that came down the river Friday was something to see. It was reported that water gaps were down everywhere and getting out to repair them in the cold weather makes you wonder if there isn't something better to be doing, like staying inside sipping hot coffee. The moisture was needed, but it would have been better if it hadn't all come at once. A bright spot will be that after it warms up and the water clears the fishing should be good. Bad Bob's bait shop reported that nice catches of catfish, white bass, gaspergoo, and gar had been brought in last week by everyone who braved the cold and all the fishing camps reported that the fishing had been good.

Elo Henniger passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010 in Lampasas Rollins Brook Hospital. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Howell-Doran funeral home in San Saba. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.

There are families in the area that you need to keep in your prayers. Foy Gibson was in the hospital in Austin last week and is now recovering at home. Bernice Porter had surgery on his right leg and it has seemed to help the feeling in his foot, he an Lafayne are in need of prayers as is Jolene Lively, who is still in rehab and is able to take a few more steps each day. It is just going to take time before she will be able to come home.

Leon and Mebbie Eckhoff braved the cold to vaccinate their goats Sunday morning. She was in Lampasas Sunday afternoon visiting her mother, Jolene Lively in the Lampasas Rehab and Nursing home.

LaNell Daniels received a good report from the tests that were run last Monday. In fact she felt so good that she, Jane Clark and Gladys Brister celebrated by playing games all afternoon at the home of Tommye Cobern.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Margie McDowell who will be celebrating a birthday February 7, and to Peggy Whitenburg and Clovis Gibson who will be celebrating a birthday February 10.

For all you lucky people that suffer from Cedar Fever here is a recipe to give you relief. Place one-half cup of berries in a saucepan with one and one-half cups of water. Bring ingredients to a boil then remove from the stove, cover and let cool. Strain and put tea in a jar and place in the refrigerator. One or two teaspoons taken daily will give you relief. Simple and it really works.
