The One Act Play for 2010 at Richland Springs High School will be Close Ties written by Elizabeth Diggs. The scene is a country home in the Berkshire Mountains of New England, where three generations have gathered for the summer. The play is about family ties and tensions, misunderstandings, and bickering, but ultimately, the family must deal with the problem at hand. The grandmother, Josephine, is edging into senility and is no longer able to live alone. It is the resolution to this problem, which so many must face in today’s world, that provides the very believable, and deeply moving, conclusion of this play.
The part of Josephine Whitaker is played by junior, Emily Smith. Sophomore, Sara Hedley will play Josephine’s daughter, Bess Whitaker Frye, and Bess’ husband, Watson Frye, will be played by junior, Stephen Soto-Thornhill. Bess and Watson have four children: Anna played by freshman, Brooklyn McGinty; Evelyn played by senior, Kelyn Green; Connie played by senior, Marsha McMillan; and Thayer, played by Haustin Burkhart, senior. Evelyn’s boyfriend and a graduate student in physics is played by junior, Brennen McGinty. The play is directed by Patsy Hall with the assistance of Candi Lewis and Pam Starr.
The cast is currently looking for an old refrigerator, stove, and kitchen table that someone would like to loan them or give to them. If you can help, please call Patsy Hall at the high school at 325-452-3427.
The play will be presented for the public in the R.S.H.S. Cafetorium on March 22, 2010.
