Dear Editor,

I will add a bit to the letter To The Editor by George Amthor in the December 31 issue.

Most people probably have never heard of Ingrid Newkirk, president of People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA for short. She is a died in the wool friend of Obama and a multitude of members of Congress, plus celebrities like George Cloony, Alec Baldwin, Bob Barker and billionaire George Soros. Not only does she want to take away your guns, she has added a new approach to completely take away your rights. It is like a sculptor chipping away a little bit of a rock at a time until the image is finished.

No long ago she started lobbying for a tax on meat that you buy in the grocery store. Does that sound ridiculous? Of course it does, but don't underestimate her and her followers. Her theory is that a tax on meat would deter people from eating meat which in the long run would prevent global warming related natural disasters by decreasing meat consumption. Yes, she says eating meat results in more global-warming emissions than all the planes, trains, autos, etc., including Al Gore's private jet. Her reasoning is, if you can call it reasoning, because livestock emit more methane gas. It isn't known how she measured the cattle flatulence.

But, Newkirk, and her cohorts in Washington D.C., highlight her hypocritical contradictions. They want to completely end all taking of game animals, but fail to acknowledge that hunting controls populations of methane-emitting elk, deer, antelope, etc. Wouldn't it be reasonable to assume that hunting is a double-whammy on animal methane production? And wouldn't it mean that ending hunting would create an uncontrolled population of animals which would wreak havoc on food production by farmers and ranchers? In addition, let's consider what a financial impact it would have on just San Saba County. Multiply that by the thousands of other counties in Texas and the USA and see what you come up with.

As George so aptly put it in his letter, WAKE UP AMERICA! You might be surprised at how many followers Newkirk, and others like her, have in Washington D.C., plus the rich and famous. Perhaps you are saying, "oh things like that can't happen here in the USA". The Jewish people in Europe didn't think the Holocaust could happen to them during Hitler's reign of terror during the 1930's and 1940's either, but it did.

Sincerely,

Milton Sellars
