The Mayborn Planetarium and Space Theater will re-open with a Monday matinee on January 4 and new shows in the weekend lineup. The matinee, "Zula Patrol: Under the Weather," airs Monday, January 4 at 2 p.m. and Thursday, January 6 at 4 p.m.

In "Zula Patrol," the heroes of the award-winning PBS TV series take an expedition to collect samples of weather for scientist Multo’s research – using their loyal pet Gorga’s ability to collect and bottle all kinds of weather. But when the Zula gang inadvertently hurt Gorga’s feelings, he decides to leave and find his own planet to live on. Interplanetary villain Dark Truder then tricks Gorga into stealing the weather from other planets as part of his evil scheme to control the universe. The Zula Patrol gang learns of this plan and goes after Gorga, and in the process, learn all about terrestrial and interplanetary weather.

The weekend lineup opens Friday, January 7 at 7 p.m. with the large format film "Hurricane on the Bayou." It is followed by a new full-dome, Uniview show, "We Are Astronomers" which provides a visually stunning tour of contemporary astronomy using beautiful 360° full-dome imagery. You’ll participate in an international quest to uncover the secrets of far off galaxies, decipher the code of starlight and be immersed in the world of exotic galaxies and endless possibilities, charting changes and challenges in stargazing since time began.

At 9 p.m. the Planetarium debuts a new laser light show, "Country Laser" featuring the best of the new and vintage country & western music. The show includes classics like "Ring of Fire," by Johnny Cash and "Crazy" by Patsy Cline, to recent hits like "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood, and contemporary country tunes like "All American Girl" by Carrie Underwood. There’s something for every country music fan.

The lineup concludes at 10 p.m. with the heavy metal sounds of "Laser Metallica." This laser light show features some of the band’s biggest hits including songs from the controversial "Black" album.

The Saturday afternoon lineup begins at 12 p.m. with the Sesame Street adventure "One World, One Sky" followed at 1 p.m. by "Zula Patrol."
