Kerrville you’re in for a treat! Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez will include Kerrville as one of fifty cities on their 2010 three-month tour of the US. Kerrville Performing Arts Society is proud to present two evening performances (7:30 pm) by this world-class troupe on January 21st and January 22nd.
When the late Amalia Hernandez founded the company in 1952, her goal was to help keep a variety of Mexico’s oldest cultural traditions alive, dating back to pre-Columbian civilizations. The troupe, Mexico’s national dance company, combines historical research with creativity, refining ancient and continuing traditions into vivid entertainment that bounds back and forth in time as it draws from the more than 30 cultures Mexico has embraced over the centuries.
Amalia Hernandez is an expert at putting together fast-paced, entertaining shows that can make viewers want to rush right off to Mexico, according to a recent review by The New York Times.
The two evening performances, along with a student outreach program for over 800 students, are made possible through the generosity and support of Mamacita’s Mexican Restaurant, Wells Fargo Bank, and Bryant & Brenda Williams. Additional funding is received from Mid-America Arts Alliance, National Endowment for the Arts and Texas Commission on the Arts.
Tickets for Ballet Folklorico de Mexico are available at the Cailloux Theater Box Office (910 Main Street) for the 7:30 pm performances on Thursday, January 21 st and Friday, January 22nd. Tickets ($25-$35-$45) may be purchased by telephone (830-896-9393) using VISA/MasterCard. Additional information at www.kpas.org or www.balletamalia.com.
