The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held in the County Judge’s Chambers on Monday, December 28th at 9 a.m. Judge Byron Theodosis welcomed everyone and explained the agenda to visitors. Rickey Lusty gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

Judge Les Dawson introduced Tracy Crites and Stephanie Reed from a law firm in the Midland/Odessa area. Crites and Reed explained their process of collecting debts. They do not charge clients any fees to collect the debt because state legislation passed a bill that pays 30% of the amount collected that they would apply for. They only take debts that are unpaid over 60 days and at the discretion of Judge Dawson. A report and payment of debts collected is provided monthly. After a short discussion, the commissioners approved hiring their services.

Sheriff Allen Brown gave a report on the progress of the new dispatch office where the electricity will be shut down on January 15th for new connections; there were no major incidents during the Christmas holiday; there will be a huge court docket on January 14th; they have a high profile murder case pending; there is a great need for another state trooper for our county and courthouse security was discussed.

Action was taken on the following items:

1. Approved two Conservation Contracts in Pct. 4.

2. Approved Resolution No. 2009-32 between the City of San Saba and San Saba County concerning the Office of Emergency Management performing duties for both the City of San Saba and San Saba County.

3. Unanimous approval for a five year contract for the lease renewal in the amount of $700 monthly for property at 423 East Wallace, occupied by Texas Department of Health & Human Services.

4. Approved the payment of bills presented by County Treasurer Gayla Hawkins.

The Commissioners tabled two items that need information or papers and discussed the weather conditions. The next Commissioners Court meeting will be Monday, January 11th at 9 a.m.

In attendance at the Court were: Judge Byron Theodosis, Commissioners Roger McGehee, Kenley Kroll, Rickey Lusty, Otis Judkins; County Clerk Kim Wells, County Treasurer Gayla Hawkins, Administrative Assistant Cathi Miles, County Coordinator Marsha Hardy, Chief Deputy Bill Price, Sheriff Allen Brown, Judge Les Dawson, Tracy Crites, attorney; Stephanie Reed, law office manager; and Alice Smith, San Saba News & Star Reporter.
