Four members of the Mozart Jr. Music Club met on Saturday, Oct. 31 in the studio of Mrs. R.E. Coleman. Performing on the piano were Paula Murphy, Peggy Walker, and Sandra Riggs. Vicki Chrane performed on the accordian.

William F. Lackey, boatswain's mate third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Lackey of Route 2, San Saba, returned to San Diego, Calif., Nov. 12 aboard the destroyer USS Hopewell after a six-month tour of duty with the U.S. Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific.

Miss Barbara Estep, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Estep Jr., was crowned Cherokee Sweetheart. Miss Mary Jo McGregor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.G. McGregor was chosen the Sweetheart of Richland Springs Coyote football team. Miss Margy Aylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom E. Aylor, was crowned Homecoming queen at half-time of the Brady-San Saba football game. Kay Sullivan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Sullivan was named San Saba County Pecan Queen.

About 141,000 pounds of dressed turkeys were shipped out of San Saba on the Thanksgiving market. That means about seven carloads, as the minimum poundage is 20,000 pounds per car.

The new directors of the San Saba Junior Chamber of Commerce elected for the term of Jan. 1, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1941, are as follows: F.M. Harrell, T.P. Golding, D.A. Cameron, Jr., H.O. Timmins, George W. Horton, John L. Walkee, Jolly Millican, Ace Howell and J.A. Mays.

Mrs. Vivian Ellis, sponsored by the San Saba Jaycees, to represent our city at the Fort Worth rodeo and horse show, was declared to be the best dressed cowgirl in the big parade there and probably the best rider among the lady sponsors in that affair.

The Commissioners Court acted to call a special road bond election for the issuance of $1,250,000 road improvement bonds on Tuesday, Dec. 17th.

Will and Charlie Burns and W.J. Hill were on a big chase in the hills south of town Monday morning. They came back to town about nine o'clock carrying as a trophy of the chase the carcass of a big fox.

Judge Hartley performed the marriage ceremony for Mr. Edgar Brown and Miss Etha Goodloe on the Beveridge bridge last Sunday afternoon, just before sundown. This is two Sundays in succession that the Judge has performed this kind of a ceremony and if there be anyone desiring his services he will be at the bridge next Sunday afternoon.

Knight Rector Jr. has bought into the firm of Rector & Rector and will hereafter be a member of the firm. Knight is at present justice of the peace for Precinct No.1.

J.W. Longley has had L.W. Rector doing the surveying and platting the Longley pasture out southwest of town into blocks and lots suitable for residences and will soon have them on the market. Watch San Saba grow.

A special Thanksgiving dinner will be served at the City Restaurant next Thursday at 35 cents a meal. This will be convenient and pleasant for those who cannot conveniently prepare dinner at home.
