The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD met for a Regular Meeting on November 9th at 6p.m. in the Central Administration Office. Secretary Kim Kirk called the meeting to order followed by the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Bob Whitten gave the invocation and Kirk established a quorum present. New laptops were installed for each board member for use during the meeting.

The following students were recognized for Students of the Month: High School, Kristen Jordan; Middle School, Brooke Nagle; Elementary, Ruben Parra. The Principals gave the awards and commented on their selection. The students were accompanied to the meeting by family members.

The following Communications was reported by Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze:

1. Technology update of laptop training and installation of document cameras and projectors in every classroom.

2. Tournaments set for Nov. 19-20-21; Nov. 25-27 Thanksgiving and dismissed Dec. 18th for Christmas.

3. Armadillo Arena expense of $7,000 to correct some construction issues. Contractor will contact vendor to get reimbursed.

4. Grade reporting changes.

5. Changes regarding drill team for the coming tryout year.

6. Audit will start next week.

7. Buck Martin & Leigh Ann Glaze will be attending Investment Training in San Angelo.

8. December 3rd will be a training make-up day.

9. A lockdown drill will be conducted very soon that will involve police assistance.

10. A letter to the editor of the San Saba News was distributed for comment and will be submitted next week.

11. The basketball schedule was listed.

The following agenda was approved:

A. Minutes from October 12th regular meeting and October 22 special budget meeting.

B. Pay bills.

C. Accept donations.

D. Financial Report.

E. Student transfer applications.

The Bank CD’s were renewed earning $7,232.81 at a local bank at 1.5% which is higher than the state which is below 1%.

Assistant Superintendent Ashley Stewart reported on Retests, Benchmark will be after Thanksgiving; 30% or more goal performances received; ESL program and CSCOPE report.

San Saba High School Principal Stewart reported a Cheerleading Competition on December 5th in Fort Worth; FCCLA on Dec. 9th at 1pm STOP abuse; 200 students enrolled.

San Saba Elementary Principal Shackleford reported 272 students enrolled; custodial change; teachers love laptops; projectors good to use; Red Ribbon week coming up; firemen helped with safety issues; 4th graders will present a program for the Veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 11th and give a program for parents in the afternoon; need a few more enrollment packets for Head Start.

San Saba Middle School Principal Bohensky reported 207 students enrolled; a Veterans Day celebration at 10 a.m. in the cafeteria; Cross Country and a San Antonio Marathon.

Unfinished business was the second reading for the local policies from TASB Policy Review Seminar. After discussion it was approved with a unanimous vote.

Athletic Director Jeff Pannell reported the play off game schedule; Armadillos will be the Home Team at Early; Girls and Boys Basketball; and Football finished with the following record:

Varsity 26, 8-2; JrV 24, 6-4; 8th 17, 4-4-1; 7th 17, 4-5.

New Business included:

a. The 2009-2010 District/Campus improvement plans were discussed with most of them state & federal requirements. Both plans were approved.

b. Board meeting dates were set for Thursday, Dec. 10th, 6 p.m.; Monday January 18th, 6 p.m.; Monday, February 8th, 7 p.m.

c. A public report was given for the progress in meeting Highly Qualified Teacher Requirements. The Technology Plan was approved by the Board.

d. The required first reading of Policy Update 86 was conducted.

Kim Kirk adjourned the meeting. Those in attendance were: Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze; Assistant Superintendent Ashley Stewart; Secretary Kim Kirk; Board members Michael Deans, Bob Whitten, Angela Johnson, Susie Nettleship; Business Manager Buck Martin; Secretary to the Superintendent, Jackie Dyer; Alice Smith, San Saba News & Star Reporter.
