It is hard to believe that October is a thing of the past and November has arrived and the families are busy making plans for the big Turkey Day. The older you get the faster the months go flying by. The weather this past week was super-duper and so far this week it has been really nice. Rather cool in the early mornings but just right the rest of the day. A frost was predicated Friday night, but none was reported out here at the Bend.
Some are busy trying to get in the last cutting and baling of hay.
Congratulations go out to the San Saba football team who has been making news. There have been several articles written about the team in the San Angelo Times. That is the first time that has happened in a long, long time. It is exciting for everyone.
There was several little spooks and of course large ones who gathered at the home of Jerome and Shirley Meischen Saturday night to watch the Texas Longhorns play Oklahoma State, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. It is always a thrill for Jerome and Shirley to see their grandson Blake Gideon play, but it was especially good this time because he recovered a fumble and even better he made an interception and ran around 30 yards. Blake had a busy time of it as did all the rest of the team.
Seems there are other people who are University of Texas fans. This time not football but volley ball. Friday Sylvia Stinnett was invited by her daughter, Autumn Brown of Burnet to watch UT play Nebraska. UT won three games out of five. The two ladies were famished after the games and to replenish their strength, they ate out before returning to Burnet. The hour being late Sylvia spent the night with Autumn and returned home Saturday.
The home of William and Jane Clark was a busy place this past week. Elsa Dean Shirley of Portales, N. M. and her son Kenneth of Claude, Texas came in Thursday night and stayed over the weekend to help Jane and other members of the family put up all of her Christmas decorations. Who else but Jane and Wal-Mart believe in putting up decorations before Halloween? There is a good reason for it, which is that the family celebrates Christmas around Thanksgiving so that the children who are married can have Christmas in their own homes. It is also a time for all the cousins to come in for a reunion. They not only put up decorations, but also donned costumes and went trick or treating Saturday with other members of the family in Lampasas. Guess they figured that the Bend folks would have been more apt to trick instead of treat.
The fish must be biting as it was reported and Jack and LaNell Daniels caught some very nice size yellow cats and channel cats Saturday and was going to bait out the lines again Sunday night to try and have a repeat. It was reported that Jack was using perch as bait.
Happy to report that Glenda Scroggins is now recuperating at home, much to the relief of family and many friends.
Happy birthday goes out to Jack Daniels who will celebrate a birthday Friday, November 6, to Bernice Porter who will celebrate a birthday Saturday, November 7, to Patsy Henniger whose birthday is Sunday, November 8, to Tammy Fullerton who will celebrate a birthday Monday, November 9.
Congratulations go out to Doug and Kristi Messer who will celebrate an anniversary November 6.
