October 25, 1984

A record number of Absentee voters in the county clerk's office as of Friday, Oct. 19 is 190 persons. Voters will choose local, state and Presidential candidates. In the Presidential contest, Republican incumbent President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George Bush are challenged by Democratic candidates Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro and Independents Lyndon La Rouche and Billy Davis.

Dr. Roy A. Lee, M.D., owner of San Saba Memorial Hospital, has offered to donate physician time, laboratory, and x-ray services to help Cross Timbers Health Clinics stay within their annual budget. CTHC facilities located in Comanche, Mills and San Saba counties are federally funded to provide health care to migrant farm workers and the rural disadvantaged.

A chartered bus, bound for Abilene and the Kenney Rogers, Chrystal Gayle Concert will leave the Heart O'Texas office in San Saba promptly at 4:15 p.m., Friday, October 26.

Mrs. Sally Baxter of Bend, was hostess to a Bee Line fashion show last Friday night with Mrs. Lige Ann Stewardson of San Saba demonstrating.

October 29, 1959

A delegation went to Fort Worth to inspect the B-58 "Hustler" bomber being built at the Convair plant. The delegation included M.W. Trussell, editor of the San Saba Star; Howard Harrison, publisher of The San Saba News; Warden Terry, County Judge; and Harry Shapiro, Mayor of San Saba.

The San Saba County Farm Bureau officers for the coming year are: Horace E. Nance, President; Richard Murray Jr., Vice President; and H.C. McKee, secretary-treasurer.

Carrol Hill, a San Saba 4-H Club member was awarded a blue ribbon at the Dallas Fair last week for a Hereford-Angus, 1000 pounds, crossbred steer. His calf sold for 36 cents per pound. Hill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hill.

It is believed that Pete Circle bagged the biggest mule deer brought back by San Saba hunters from a hunt in Colorado. The deer, with a 40-inch span of horns with 22 points, dressed 281 pounds.

October 28, 1909

Huts Owen and Jno. W. Fry will open a market in the J.M. Carter building west of W.B. Urquhart's new barn Thursday. Will keep fresh meats, sausages and barbecue every day and will thank the people for a liberal share of their patronage.

Prof. G. H. Hagan, editor of the Star, is on the sick list this week.

Ted Brown had one finger cut off while working at the gin Tuesday.

Joe A. Williams has some of his irrigated corn on exhibition at the Dallas Fair.

Cost something? Raise taxes? Sure. A city government can't be run without some cost. And, brother, it's going to take lots of money, energy and labor to build a "Greater San Saba.'
