The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD held a special meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, October 22nd.

President Darrin Barker gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

The Board Goals were reviewed to see what could be cut to adjust the budget. The following goals were reviewed: facility- including long term renovations; student achievement; accountability-pursue grants; financial; personnel incentives; safety & security; staff review; technology - mostly with grants; board & administrative staff; communications - parents/public.

A review of the Budget was discussed with a comparison with other school districts similiar to SSISD. For instance, Johnson City receives state funds of $8,000 per student and San Saba $2,000. The state funding is based on 2005 when it was “frozen,” Also, SSISD has a larger number of Economically disadvantaged students.

Superintendant Leigh Ann Glaze reported that she met with the staff on Monday, October 19th and received some suggestions and discussed some possible cuts. The Principals will be cutting back on supplies and other costs to help with budgeting.

The review of the cost of each program was discussed. Estimates are being received for contracted services for the cafeteria. School lunches is one area where the district has a loss of funds.

After reviewing, discussing and listing the budget cuts, the Board adapted the list that cut the budget $149,500. A letter to the editor of the San Saba News will be written to notify and inform the public about the steps that have been taken.
