A round-up of the "49ers" (San Saba High School Graduates of 1949) was held in the fellowship hall of the Second and Wallace Street Church of Christ on Saturday, October 3rd. Pauline Gregg Stewardson, class treasurer, greeted classmates, along with their spouses and guests, at the registration table receiving their "dues respect"! On the registration table, which was decorated in purple and gold, were booklets that contained a time capsule of momentous events of 1949. Each class member received one of these "yearbooks" compliments of Billie Bub and Carolyn McCoury. The McCoury's also displayed their vast collection of school pictures, memorabilia, as well as pictures taken at former class reunions.

During the time of gathering and reminiscing, the group enjoyed the welcome table of sausage balls, donut holes, cookies and coffee.

The noon meal was catered by Gage Barbecue. After the invocation by Carolyn McCoury, everyone filled their plates with delicious brisket, sausage, beans, potato salad and all the trimmings, seating themselves at the U shaped tables covered with green cloths. White rope was entwined down the center of the tables to carry out the class colors of green and white. In keeping with the western theme of the '49 Junior-Senior Banquet, other decorations were branding irons, miniature horses, a covered wagon and on the head table a bucking horse and rider fashioned of horseshoes.

After reports made by secretary Ova Jean McDaniel Hutson and treasurer Pauline Gregg Stewardson, Charles Murray Oliver presided as Master of Ceremonies with his wit, wisdom and nostalgic tales.

As a grand finale all partook of a special "birthday cake" served with ice cream. The cake was decorated to duplicate the'49 Junior-Senior banquet program adding 1949 and 2009 to the cowboy boot design.

An enjoyable time as had by all who expressed their desire to assemble again in 2011. Attending the reunion were Kenneth and Tish Johnson; Cyrus, Tina and Richard Reynolds; Charles Murray, Pam Oliver, Tommy and Carolyn Hall, Bill Kirkpatrick, Vivian McCall, Pauline Stewardson, Alice Reece, Carolyn and Billie Bub McCoury, Tommy and Anne Grozier, Ova Jean and J.C. Hutson, Patsy and Roy Shahan, Pat Neff, Nettie Oma Carpenter and teacher Mary Sue Hinyard.
