Monday, September 14th, the San Saba County 4-H gathered together to start their new 4-H year. There were a total of fourteen 4-H’ers present at the meeting. Eight of these 4-H’ers were voted into the San Saba County 4-H Council as President, Vice- President, Secretary, Treasurer, Delegate, Official Photographer, or Reporter.

Melanie Hedley was voted as President, Abby Dellis as Vice- President, Asa Halbour as Secretary, Marissa Coffman as Treasurer, Ron Gerhart as Official Photographer, Sara Hedley as Reporter, and Emily Esquivel and Riana Bass as Delegates. Along with electing new officers the 4-H’ers discussed new projects in the up coming month.

4-H is going to do a community service this year titled “Pennies for the Pound.” Plastic bins or bottles will be placed in local areas to collect pennies to support a local animal shelter.

Food Fun Day is scheduled for September 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon this year. The cost per person is $10. The 4-H is also raffling a Remington 700 SPS 308 for $10 a ticket and three tickets for $25. You need not be present to win and the drawing will be held on October 13th. Following the 4-H meeting was the first Shooting Sports safety secession. There were a total of 18 4-H’ers present! This year will be Shooting Sport’s fourth year and we are glad to see that the number of interested 4-H’ers is growing.

In this safety session 4-H’ers learned firearm safety, range safety, the importance of safety, parts of the rifle, different types of sights, caliber and its importance, and most importantly gun fit. At the end of the training the 4-H’ers were paired up into three teams for a trivia game.

The next safety session will be held at the Rylander Library at 7:00 p.m. on September 21st. Hope to see all of you there again! What a great way to start the year!
