Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Lampasas County is pleased to announce the annual Central Texas Cow/Calf Clinic, which will be held this year on Aug. 18, 2009 at the Lampasas County Farm Bureau Building (1793 N HWY 281).

Registration will begin at 8:45 am, with the program starting promptly at 9:00. Topics this year include Insect Management in Beef Cattle (Fly Control), Forages and Beef Cattle (Weed Control), Bull Selection Basics, and a current look at this year’s Beef Cattle Market.

Recent spring and summer rains have parts of Central Texas looking lush and green, but have brought along another set of challenges for beef cattle producers to face (parasites, flies, weeds, etc.). This year’s program will address these important issues, as well as try and make some sense out of the ever-confusing market outlook.

Confirmed speakers include Dr. Chris Sansone (Associate Department Head and Extension Program Leader for Entomology), Dr. Bill Thompson (Assistant Professor and Extension Economist), Dr. David Drake (Associate Professor and Extension Agronomist), and Jason Byrd (County Extension Agent, Lampasas Co.).

Three continuing education units (3 CEUs) will be offered for those with a pesticide applicator’s license. The cost to attend the 2009 Central Texas Cow/Calf Clinic includes a catered lunch and any printed materials.
