Class of 1939 Seated L-R: Edsel Whittenburg, James Harkey, Dorothy Gage, Louise McNair. Standing L-R: Betty Jo Miller, Jane Behrens, and Sara Maultsby.

Seventy years ago this May fifty-nine young people lined up in caps and gowns to receive a diploma from San Saba High School. Today, eight of the twenty still living are living in San Saba.

On Saturday, July 11, these locals had a get-together at Gage's Barbeque. Everyone arrived at 10:30 to visit, look at pictures from days gone by and remember the good times. Tables were decorated in purple and gold with a balloon for each graduate. The centerpiece was a flower arrangement that was given as a door prize. Jane Behrens was the name drawn to receive it. At 11:30 everyone enjoyed their choice of barbeque from the menu. A beautiful cake, made by Katheryn Robertson, was served following the meal. It was done in purple and gold flowers with "Class of 1939" on it.

As each classmate departed they let their balloon go as a symbol of their lasting friendship. Those attending the event included Jane Behrens and daughter, Janis Murray; Betty Jo Miller; Louise McNair; Sara Maultsby and daughter, Brenda Land; Dorothy Gage and daughter, Carol Everett; James Harkey; and Edsel Whittenburg and wife, Peggy. Unable to attend was Ted Brown who was greatly missed.
