The Freemasons of San Saba Masonic Lodge No. 612 will hold their first stated meeting of the Masonic year on Saturday evening, August 1. A meal of boiled shrimp, corn, potatoes, salad and desserts will be provided by the members of the Order of Eastern Star. Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. Members are asked to bring a complimentary covered side dish.

Although this is a stated meeting, it will be a special evening in which San Saba Lodge will recognize its members with various service awards. Members of Richland Springs Lodge No. 882 will also be present for the joint awards ceremony. Lodge will be opened at about 7:00 p.m. and will be called to refreshment for the purpose of inviting the public, family and guests of the awardees'. Chad Anderson, a Past Master of Mullin Lodge No. 806, will make the 50 Year Awards presentations.

25 Year Award - Timothy Charles Jones. Jones was made an EA 6-6-1985, FC 8-1-1985 and MM 9-5-1985 in San Saba Lodge. He became an endowed member in 1984.

40 Year Award - Clarence L. Mosby was made an EA 6-1-1968, FC 11-2-1968, and MM 1-4-1969 in San Saba Lodge. He has served in the offices of Tiler, Senior Deacon & Junior Deacon.

50 Year Awards - Robert L. Daniel. Daniel was made an EA 8-7-1958, FC 6-9-1959, and MM 7-7-1959 in San Saba Lodge. Dermont Oliver was made an EA 4-13-1959, FC 8-17-1959, and MM 9-18-1959, in Yellow House Lodge No. 841 in Lubbock. He became an endowed member of San Saba Lodge in 2003. Joe R. Ragsdale was made an EA 6-9-1959, FC 7-17-1959, and MM 8-26-1959 in San Saba Lodge. Ragsdale has served as Worshipful Master of the lodge in 1968 and twice served as District Deputy Grand Master in 1969 and 1972. Ragsdale is the recipient of the Golden Trowel Award in 1997. Scotty McCall Roberds was made an EA 12-6-1958, FC 9-5-1959, and MM 9-5-1959, in San Saba Lodge.

60 Year Award - Bill H. Doran was made an EA 11-6-1948, FC 5-5-1949, and MM 8-27-1949 in San Saba Lodge.

Golden Trowel Awards - The Gold Trowel Award was created by the Grand Lodge of Texas in 1991, for the purpose of recognizing those Masons who demonstrated exemplary service to the Craft of Freemasonry. It is the highest honor that an individual lodge can bestow to a member. District Deputy Grand Master Gary Voges, of the 70th Masonic District will make the presentation. Earnest Roy Jones was made an EA 4-3-1976, FC 2-5-1977, and MM 4-2-1977, in San Saba Lodge. Jones has also served the lodge as Worshipful Master in 1984, and became an endowed member in 1984. Thomas Lee Alston was made an EA 1-9-1971, FC 3-19-1971, and MM 5-13-1971, in Richland Springs Lodge No. 882. Alston has served as Worshipful Master of his lodge in 1978, 1995, and 1996.
