Thanks to a collaboration with Hill Country Community Action Association, Inc. the 60% deficit in funding for the Dove Project will be met for the months of July and August. HCCAA received notice of extra funding from President Obama’s Stimulus package to underwrite an expansion of their Case Management Program. The Dove Project will be screening clients that come through their facility for case management.

“What this means is that we will be able to assist our clients in going back to school or even starting a better paying job that will transition them out of poverty,” states Georgia Harris, Program Director for the Dove Project.

Such assistance will include things such as books, gas, energy assistance, etc.

HCCAA will also be using some of the Stimulus funds to assist children who are going back to school with school supplies. A huge Back to School Health and Safety Fair is planned for August 21 at the Civic Center from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Organizations, clubs, and non-profit agencies that work with families are encouraged to have a free fun booth for the event. Money raised from sponsors will be used to purchase school supplies. Depending on the amount of money raised, children will receive vouchers to purchase school supplies. Free backpacks will also be given out with the names of sponsors printed on them. Sponsors are needed.

The Dove Project also received notice that they will be funded for $121,000 beginning in September 2009 through the Victims of Crime Act grant that is administered by the Attorney General’s Office, Criminal Justice Division.
