The City Council of the City of San Saba met for a regular meeting Tuesday, July 14th at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Mayor Ken Jordan called the meeting to order and announced a quorum present. Councilman Charlie Peeler gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

The July Joe Ragsdale Employee of the Month award was presented to Eric Morgan. Eric has worked faithfully for the Water Department for 1 1/2 years and available to help with other city events such as Skate Night, the Parade and Pecan Trade Days. He was presented a caddy and will have one day off with pay.

The following consent agenda items were approved by the Council:

1. Minutes from the June 2nd and 16th Council Meetings.

2. Payment of bills.

3. Resolution No. 2009-16 to renew contract between San Saba County Appraisal District and the City of San Saba for collection of taxes.

4. Resolution No. 2009-17 waiving noise ordinance for July 25, 2009.

5. Resolution No. 2009-18 waiving noise ordinance for July 18, 2009.

The following action items were approved after discussion:

a. Increase to North San Saba Water Supply Corp. water rates.

b. Ordinance No. 2009-10 replacing Ordinances No. 2000-1 & 1987-2, collection of a room occupancy tax.

c. Ordinance No. 2009-11 prohibiting the pumping of water directly from Mill Pond by individuals or businesses. (The State of Texas owns the water and the city can use it for municipal purposes. When pumper tanks extract water they also inadvertantly put oil or other unwanted materials in the water that is a danger to the fish and ducks.) We also need to comply with TCQ and EPA regulations.

City Manager, Stan Weik reported on the following: update on the golf course; a meeting regarding the Water Park Law Suit on Aug. 19th; Weik and Mayor Jordan have attended meetings and gathered information regarding the Mesquite Fuel company. San Saba is one of the cities the company is considering that will supply around 100 jobs; the cemetery maintenance is going well.

Tony Guidroz, Economic Developoment, gave a report on the Rodeo publicity; 22,000 hits on the website to date; a new business coming to town; Pecan Trade Days; and a Vintage Car Club with 60 vehicles will be at the courthouse at noon on October 15.

Roger Verette, Electric Department Supervisor, reported that the new electric lines have made a difference and are very beneficial.

Wayne Yarbrough, Water/Wastewater Supervisor, reported repairs and maintenance which has been difficult during the hot weather.

Keith Harris, Golf Course Manager, reported about the recent Two Man Tournament; new score cards; sponsorship for new signs; the golf course was featured in Texas Golf Magazine.

Gale Ivy, City Secretary mentioned the insert that listed the Council members duties.

Scott Glaze, Public Works Department Supervisor, reported a lot of brush pickup before showing a video of the following: Maintenance; installed new pole; new softball field work including fence and sprinkler system; tree clearing; rodeo parade entries; new VACON truck.

Mayor Jordan adjourned the meeting.
