The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD met Thursday, July 16th in the Central Administration Office. President Darrin Barker called the meeting to order at 7p.m. and gave the invocation followed by the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

Amanda Hines, a representative of theTexas Association of School Boards, gave important information for Board Members. Hines is scheduled for a meeting at SSISD at 8 a.m. Friday, July 17th before returning to Austin.

Communications from Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze included: August School Board meeting will be Monday, August 10th at 6 p.m.;scheduled Budget Workshops; gave grant updates; GASA Summer Conference & TASA Leadership Training scheduled; Summer Maintenance; Legislative Update; Handbooks and Code of Conduct are being up-dated; no changes in lunchroom prices and free breakfast again this year; SSISD received a First rating for Financial Fitness; teacher orientation. Discussed A/C problem in the Gym - has not worked properly since installation; new surveilance system (32 cameras inside and outside White Gym).

Glaze gave a report on the Facilities Committee tour of the SSISD facilities.

The Committee was given information of when each building was built; electric and maintenance bills; improvements, etc. Each Committee person listed their comments on the condition of the facilities.

Assistant Superintendent Ashley Stewart gave a report on: Re-test scores; CSOPE, new curriculum report; general, Title 1 and other federal programs; new supplies and local and federal changes; teachers workshop.

Middle School Principal Bohensky reported getting material, schedule, etc. for the new school year; cheerleading camp is this week; Physical Education is scheduled for every day of the school year.

Athletic Director Pannell reported getting organized; doing some painting; sent letters to sports participants; scheduling football practice when temperature is cooler from 7a.m. to 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; will attend a Texas High School Athletic Assn. meeting.

High School Principal Stewart reported drill team practice in progress; Color Guard in Abilene; Band practice will start August 3rd. Cheerleader Camp scheduled; Senior pictures will be August 20th and other pictures taken in October. Stewart is getting acquainted and organized.

Elementary Principal Shackelford reported that registration is August 4th and new student registration is August 6th; getting organized and ready for school; plans to partner with Head Start; has a staff that is great and looking forward to the start of school.

The Board tabled one unfinished business item and awarded the 2009-2010 bids for food, non-food items, fuel and oil.

The following new business items were approved:

a. Student Insurance Carrier for 2009-2010.

b. Appraisal Calendar and Appraisers.

c. Waived late fees applied to property taxes.

d. Two Year Intergovernmental Contract with San Saba County Appraisal District for the purposes of collecting SSISD taxes.

e. Set a Board meeting date of August 4th to adopt 2009-2010 M & O Budget and tax.

f. Set a tenative tax rate for 2009-2010 of $1.17 M&O plus 9cent I&S for inclusion in the Official notice for publication.

g. Interlocal Agreement with San Saba ISD and Hill Country Community Action for Headstart Services - sharing staff and programs.

The Board discussed the procedure for collecting overdue charges due to the food service for lunches not paid. They will get legal advise on the matter.They reviewed Board Policy regarding stunts and pyramid building for all cheerleading squads.

President Barker adjourned the meeting and announced a short break before going into the Executive Session. Those attending the meeting were: Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze; Assistant Superintendent Ashley Stewart; President Darrin Barker; Secretary Marcie Maxey; Board Members Michael Deans, Bob Whitten, Angela Johnson, Suzy Nettleship; Secretary to the Superintendent Jackie Dyer; School Principals Stewart, Bohensky, Shackelford; Athletic Director Pannell; SSISD Business Manager Buck Martin, Amanda Hines and Alice Smith, San Saba News & Star Reporter.

During the Executive Session the board regretfully accepted 2 resignations - Kim Underwood and Laney Johnson.

Hired on are Shawn Messer, Asst. Band Director; Brooke Calcote, Technician & Inclusion for Middle School; Lauren Shero, Music Teacher for Elementary.

Newly hired on Secretaries are Sandra Snoddy, Elementary and Bonnie Walker Middle School.
