James William Edwards passed away in Las Vegas on May 10, 2009. He was born on September 21, 1924 in Bethel, outside of Richland Springs, Texas, the 4th child of William “Bill” Edwards and Emma Cockrell Edwards.

James graduated from Richland Springs High School class of 1941, and soon enlisted into the Army, serving in Europe in WW2. His service to the millitary extended thru Korea and Vietnam. Soon after enlisting James met and married his wife, Virginia Wheelock, who was an Army Nurse. They had many memorable experiences, living near Washington, DC, and in Japan, Hawaii, Kwajalein Island and Saudi Arabia, and he could really tell those stories!!!

James was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother, Burlie; his two sisters, Thelma Grumbles and Hattie Templeton.

James is survived by his three sons, David; Mike and his wife, Geri; and Jeff; all of Las Vegas; granddaughters, Jody and her husband, Rock, and Katie; step-grandchildren, Tanya & Brant; three step-great-granddaughters, Allison; Arianna; and Juliana. James is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Burlie (Babe) Edwards of Richland Springs. Also nieces, Jeanie O’Grady; Mary Jo Beene; Pat and her husband, Richard Mulholland; nephews, Will Templeton and his wife, LoisAnn; and Ed Grumbles and his wife, Sammie.

James William Edwards' funeral and burial service was held at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio with full military gun salute for his 22 years of service.
