The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met June 25, 2009 for play day. In the absence of the Chair for June, Jo Anne Hardy, Anita Miles called for a new game, “Lagging”. The person on the green closest to the hole got a point. She also announced Low Gross and Low Net would also win.

And Anita called for the game and had her best round of the summer and actually won all three of the games! She also chipped in to win the chip in pot for the fourth consecutive win, a club record. Good day for Anita! She had fun in the sun.

She took the Low Gross win and awarded the ‘game’ win to Second Place which was a tie between Hattie Rogers and Dorothy Sterner and Low Net to Second place, Sandee Hartley. I failed to mention last week when Sandee scored her ‘hole in one’ that this was also the only eagle of this summer!

Jo Ann Snow and Becky Hardin also played and Pat Ribb joined the ladies to watch and do lunch. Pat is still having back problems and is discouraged but will stay an active member of the Ladies Association. We don’t want to lose Pat! Bobbie Churchill also watched and rode with the ladies and did lunch. Bobbie is also having health issues but will soon be back on the links!

We were so pleased to have a special guest player, Aileen Roberts, and she played a good round of golf. We are hoping that she will become a member of the Ladies Association.

We had a really fun thing this week at the course. Our own, Jerry Turner, was to be awarded “City Employee of the Month” and as it was a secret the Pro, Keith Harris, told Jerry he had to go to the City Council meeting in his place as he was going to be out of town. It was all a hoax! Jerry, who retired a few years ago, has come back to the San Saba River Golf Course and the members were delighted to get him back. He has been with us since the beginning of time and is a landmark and treasure to our course! So, Jerry being the nice guy that he is, said he would go but he didn’t want to have to give a report and Keith assured him he wouldn’t. But alas, when he got to the meeting Scott Glaze informed him he had to give a speech. You have to know Jerry, but he wasn’t a happy camper. It was all in good fun and we were all thrilled for Jerry Turner to be named “City Employee of the Month!” He is most deserving!

Lots of sweat and red faces and thirsty ladies on this beautiful June day; but golly it’s fun to be “swinging!”
