The College For Kids program, hosted by the Continuing Education Department of Central Texas College (CTC), continues offering fun, educational and entertaining classes directed to youngsters three years to high school age. Registration for July classes is underway now. Some of the available classes are:
CSI Junior (age 9 and older): Students will get lots of hands-on experience learning the basics of criminal investigation. Course topics include terminology, fingerprinting, lifting printing on evidence and fingerprint comparison. The class meets each Tuesday/Thursday, July 7 – 16, from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $28.
Temperature, Water and Weather Oh My! (age 5 and older): Students will make thermometers, barometers and a cloud in a bottle while learning about the water cycle and how it affects weather all over the planet. The class meets Monday through Thursday, July 20-23, from 1 – 4 p.m. The cost is $67.
You Rock! Fossil Hunting (age 5 and older): Discover the fun of fossil hunting in Central Texas. Students will get an overview of the fossilization process and learn how to find and identify fossils. The class meets Monday through Thursday, July 20-23, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $67.
Galaxy Quest (age 7 and older): Learn about the power of the sun, gravity, stars and more as students explore science through hands-on experiments. Students will make a constellation projector, use a solar telescope and a sun spotter. The class is Tuesday through Friday, July 7 – 10, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $64.
Crime Scene Investigation (age 11 and older): Students will learn the basic steps of becoming an investigator, how to process a crime scene and collect evidence. The class is Saturdays July 11 and 18, from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $14.
PADI Seal Team (age 8 and older): Take action-packed, adventurous “aqua missions” all within the safety of a pool. Students will learn the basic of diving and explore several specialty dives. The class is Wednesday through Friday, July 8-10, from 9 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Another class will be held July 15-17. Students must provide their own mask, snorkel and fins. The cost for either class is $151.
Scuba Camp: Enjoy a week-long underwater adventure which includes three classes (PADI Seal Team, Project Aware and Discover Scuba) at a reduced rate of $200. The class meets Monday through Friday, July 6-10, from 9 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Another class will be offered July 20-24.
Basic Theatrical Production (age 11-15): This new class teaches the basics of putting on and performing in a play. Class focuses on movement, vocal and facial expression, casting, costume design, set construction and props. Students will lead a performance at the end of the two weeks. The class is Monday through Friday, July 6-17, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $99.
Poet’s Jam (age 9 and older): Learn how to express your creativity through poetry. Students will explore different types of poetry and how to use different environments to write. The class is Monday through Thursday, July 13-16, from 1 – 4 p.m. The cost is $43.
Also available in July are language classes including Spanish, French and German; art classes such as art exploration, wire sculpture, arts & crafts, picture this and ceramics; and a variety of topics like chess basics and strategies, soccer fun, scuba, CPR, fundamentals of cooking, girl time day spa and bird watching.
