June 22, 1989

LCRA to dedicate Xeriscape Garden. Wednesday June, 28, will be a special day for the San Saba Rylander Memorial Library. There will be a dedication ceremony conducted by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) for the new Xeriscape Garden which accents "Water Conservation through Creative Landscaping".

Oops! - Four freight cars derailed in San Saba on a sidetrack near the location of the old depot. The main line was temporarily blocked about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14. A heavy-duty crane arrived Thursday morning to lift the cars back on the track. Heavy rains had apparently weakened the roadbed causing the derailment.

Two San Saba area students at Angelo State University were among 433 students to receive degrees during the Spring Commencement at the University. Mark Lewis Gray of Cherokee received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Animal Science, and Tana Kaye Burnham of San Saba received an Associate of Science in Nursing with a major in Nursing.

June 25, 1959

Jeff Byrd will be installed as president of the San Saba Lions club at the regular luncheon meeting to be held next Tuesday, June 30.

A total of 1,000 people including stockholders and their families and friends from the eight county area, attended the PCA Silver Anniversary meeting held here last Saturday, June 20. The meeting was held in the shady pecan bottom near the Kelly Owen home. A barbecue dinner was served to the group.

Airman, Jerry Joe Patton, who recently completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and now is stationed at Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, is training to be a technical mechanic. The son of Mrs. Lee McKee, he is expected to arrive home for the July 4 weekend.

Showing at the Palace Theatre-filmed in AFRICA "Tarzan's Greatest Adventure" starring Gordon Scott. Sunday, June 28, 1 complete show at 1:30 p.m. Paul Newman in "The Young Philadelphians".

June 24, 1920

A representative crowd greeted Judge Stubbs last night in the district courtroom where that gentleman made a speech in the interest of his candidacy for District Judge and to refute some unfounded charges brought against him. His crowd was responsive and deeply impressed with what he had to say.

There will be an Ice Cream Supper and Candidate rally at the China Creek School House Saturday evening and night June 26th. The proceeds will go to the building fund of the Methodist Church. All are cordially invited to attend.

Coming to San Saba for one week only, beginning Monday, June 28, Showalter's Tent Theatre Co. featuring The Gerrard Players. Ladies free Monday night when accompanied by someone who has paid admission. Admission 20 & 30 c, including war tax.
