Pictured with the new grass truck (L to R) are Johnnie Shahan and San Saba County Volunteer Fire Chief Chris Stewart.

For the past few years, the SSVFD has vigorously sought out grants for state and federal funds to update our grass trucks. Some of these vehicles are very old and sometimes inoperable.

Recently, the SSVFD was awarded a grant from the Texas Forest Service for a slip-on pump unit. This left the SSVFD with the responsibility of acquiring a chassis-cab for completion of this project. The county of San Saba provided part of the needed funds while the SSVFD utilized monies donated over the years through their various fundraisers.

Acquisition of this emergency vehicle truly was a team effort from everyone involved.

The SSVFD wishes to sincerely thank all those who have supported and donated to their organization over the years. Also, SSVFD wishes to thank the TFS and the county of San Saba for their support and finally to the firemen that worked long hours to finish out this vehicle, your sacrifice is greatly appreciated.
