Velma Brown 98 of Richland Springs, passed away Saturday January 3, 2008 in a health care facility in Goldthwaite. Velma was born August 26, 1910, in Lakeview, Texas the daughter of Rand Strickland and Frances Elms Strickland.

On November 22, 1928 Velma Strickland and Newton Carlton Brown were married in the Methodist Parsonage in Richland Springs. Newton preceded her in death April 10, 2005.

Velma was a past secretary of the Richland Springs School Board and attended the First Christian Church in Richland Springs.

Velma is survived by one daughter, Peggy Koch and her husband Rubin of Irving. Grandchildren, Melanie Koch of Grand Prairie; Wendy Koch of Oregon; and Sheria Lynn O’Neal and her husband Talley of Houston. One brother, R.C. Strickland and his wife Helen of Arlington and several nieces and nephews.

Velma is preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Hervey Strickland; and three sisters, Kitty Mariner; Herois Tally; and Lucille Phillips.

Services were held Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home with Rev. John Pennington officiating. Interment followed at the Richland Springs Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to the First Christian Church of Richland Springs.

Funeral Services were under the direction of Howell-Doran Funeral Home.
